STAC BOYS SOCCER: OWEGO FALLS TO FORKS IN OPENING ROUND OF '607 CUP' (24 PHOTOS) (2025-08-29) Tioga County Sports Report OWEGO — A young and inexperienced Owego boys soccer team continued its baptism by fire here Friday night in a 5-1 setback against Chenango Forks in the opening round of the 607 Cup.
"A 5-1 result will feel harsh," said Owego coach Alessio De Michele. "Against good teams, we need to be more consistent and read the moments of the game better.
"The players left everything out there physically, but that’s the bare minimum at Owego.
"We’re at the beginning of the journey and the group has a lot of desire to improve," added DeMichele. "We go again (Saturday) against Elmira Notre Dame."
Benny Mikels scored the Rivers Hawks' lone goal of the game.
Owego hosts Notre Dame at 5 p.m. in the consolation game, while Chenango Forks takes on Corning, which beat ND, 6-1.
