OWEGO — A young and inexperienced Owego boys soccer team continued its baptism by fire here Friday night in a 5-1 setback against Chenango Forks in the opening round of the 607 Cup.
"A 5-1 result will feel harsh," said Owego coach Alessio De Michele. "Against good teams, we need to be more consistent and read the moments of the game better.
"The players left everything out there physically, but that’s the bare minimum at Owego.
"We’re at the beginning of the journey and the group has a lot of desire to improve," added DeMichele. "We go again (Saturday) against Elmira Notre Dame."
Benny Mikels scored the Rivers Hawks' lone goal of the game.
