WAVERLY — Newark Valley’s Rachel Hartman just missed a trip to the state championships after placing 12th at the Section IV Division 2 Girls Bowling State Qualifier at Valley Bowling Center here Friday.
With four Maine-Endwell bowlers qualifying for the D-2 team tournament, they became ineligible for the Composite tournament. That bumped Hartman up to the eight spot on the Section IV all-star squad. Unfortunately for the Cardinal standout, only seven bowlers advance, six who will compete and a seventh who goes as an alternate.
Hartman rolled a high game of 227 and a high series of 572 in the afternoon session, which were the seventh and 10th highest scores, respectively, in Division 2. She scored a 545 in the morning and had a 606 at sectionals, giving her a 9-game total of 1723.
Lyla Dufresne was the only other NV competitor to bowl nine games. She had a 474 and 527 at the qualifier with a high game of 183. With her sectional score of 460, she had a total pinfall of 1461.
Mae Anna Jackson participated in five games with a high game of 162, and Abigail Dufresne and Brook Illsley rolled four games apiece, registering high games of 158 and 137, respectively.
Abigail DeBolt competed in three games with a 182 high game and Olivia Vaughn played in two games with a 145 high game. DeBolt and Vaughn did not compete in the sectional tournament.
NV took sixth in the 8-team event with a total pinfall of 6947.
