SECTION IV GIRLS BASKETBALL: STATE-RANKED DELHI ENDS CANDOR'S SEASON WITH 57-38 WIN IN CLASS C OPENER (18 PHOTOS) (2025-02-26)

CANDOR — State-ranked Delhi, the 10th seed, used a 15-0 blitz to end the third quarter to blow open a close game on its way to a 57-38 win over seventh-seeded Candor here Wednesday night in the opening round of the Section IV, Class C girls basketball playoffs.

The Bulldogs, ranked 15th in the state, and Coyotes battled to evenly over the first eight minutes and the opening quarter ended at 14-14. Claire Rollins, Megan Williamson and Emmi Makie scored four points apiece in the stanza.

Williamson made 8 of 10 free-throw attempts in the third quarter, and Shawna Conklin added four points for the Coyotes, but Delhi edged ahead 29-28 at the half.

Rollins knocked down a 3-pointer midway through the third quarter to pull the Coyotes within three points, at 36-33, but that was as close they would get.

Delhi reeled off 15 points to take a 51-33 lead into the final eight minutes.

Williamson led Candor with 16 points, seven rebonds, and three steals, while Conklin had six points, a career-high 17 rebounds, three blocked shots, and two wreaks, and Rollins added eight points and two steals.

Makie had six points and five boards for the Coyotes, while Hazel Ray grabbed six boards, and Ava Fernando chipped in with four rebounds and two steals.

Candor wraps up the season at 14-5.

Delhi, now 12-7, moves on to face second-seeded Greene (6-3), which is ranked eighth in the state.
