TIOGA COUNTY SPORTS REPORT: OWEGO'S McEVOY, STRUBLE, NEWARK VALLEY'S MIDDENDORF NAMED GUTHRIE COMMUNITY CREDIT UNION 'ATHLETES OF THE WEEK' (2025-02-19)

TIOGA COUNTY — Owego's Madison McEvoy had a big week, including a record-breaking performance, to lead the River Hawks to a pair of wins, while Owego senior Bobby Struble and Newark Valley senior Trevor Middendorf punched their ticket to the New York State Division 2 Wrestling Championships. They are the TCSR / Guthrie Community Credit Union "Athletes of the Week," for the week ending Feb. 15.

OWEGO'S McEVOY NAMED GUTHRIE COMMUNITY CREDIT UNION GIRLS "ATHLETE OF THE WEEK"
McEvoy 23.5 points, 5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 5 steals in a pair of River Hawk wins, while knocking down 14 3-pointers, including a school-record eight in one game.

McEvoy had 24 points, including six 3-pointers, seven rebounds, four assists, and four steals in a 61-44 win over Edmonton Monday.

On Wednesday, McEvoy pumped in 26 points, including a school-record eight 3-pointers (eclipsing the mark of seven set by Kaci Donovan in 2020), three rebounds, three assists, six steals, and one blocked shot.

OWEGO'S STRUBLE, NEWARK VALLEY'S MIDDENDORF NAMED GUTHRIE COMMUNITY CREDIT UNION BOYS "ATHLETES OF THE WEEK"
Struble notched a 15-0 technical fall over M-E's Albert Smith in the quarterfinals, then rolled to a 17-4 major decision over Edison's Greg Golden in the semifinals.

Struble dropped a 2-1 decision to U-UV-F's Wyatt Meade in the 160-pound title match.

Middendorf dispatched a pair of Deposit-Hancock wrestlers on his way to the finals, scoring a 21-5 technical fall of Evan Johnson in the quarterfinals, and a 9-0 major decision over Jason Canedo in the semifinals.

In the 124-pound finale, Middendorf dropped a 20-4 technical fall to defending state champion Maverick Beckwith of Norwich.
