STAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: BIG SECOND QUARTER PROPELS OWEGO TO 49-37 WIN OVER SCHENEVUS (2025-02-17)

OWEGO — Owego used a big second quarter to take a 12-point lead into the half on its way to a 49-37 win over Schenevus here Monday night in non-league girls basketball action.

With the win, the River Hawks improve to 8-11 and clinch a berth in the upcoming Section IV, Class A playoffs.

Lexi Herceg pumped in 10 points in the first half for Owego, but Schenevus kept pace and the game was tied at 13-13 after the first eight minutes.

Madison McEvoy scored nine points in the second quarter, while Jenna McEvoy knocked down a pair of 3-pointers, and Eva Crawford added four points to fuel a 19-7 blitz that gave the River Hawks a 32-20 lead at the halftime break.

Schenevus outscored Owego, 7-6, in the third quarter to close the gap to 38-27, but the River Hawks finished off the game with an 11-10 advantage in the fourth quarter.

Jenna McEvoy canned a 3-pointer and was 2-for-2 from the line in the final stanza, and Herceg added four points.

Herceg led Owego with 14 points, six rebounds, three assists, and five steals, while Jenna McEvoy scored 12 points, three rebounds, and three steals, and Madison McEvoy added 11 points, three rebounds, four steals, and three steals.

Crawford chipped in with nine points, five rebounds, three steals, and two blocked shots in the win, while Ashlyn Dalton contributed three rebounds, three assists, and six steals, and Jana Nikulich grabbed three boards.

Owego closes out the regular season Tuesday when it hosts Union Springs.
