BINGHAMTON — Spencer-Van Etten/Candor’s Rodney Vaow garnered sixth-place honors at the Section IV Division II Wrestling Championships held at Visions Veterans Memorial Arena Saturday.
Vaow won his first two matches posting a 15-0 technical fall over Newark Valley’s Leland Houston, then scoring a 12-6 upset of third-seeded Hunter Boynton of Moravia.
In the semifinals, he fell to Abdul-Jamil Zaggout from Unatego/Unadilla Valley/Franklin by a 14-2 major decision.
In the consolation bracket, the sixth-seeded Vaow battled another UVUF foe, Gavin Nordberg, dropping a 10-7 sudden victory decision. In the fifth-place match, he faced Owego’s Collin Monell and was the victim of a fall in 2:16.
The Eagles had one other competitor in action at sectionals as Cooper Zufall made his debut. He went 0-2 on the day at 160.
