IAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: CANDOR ROLLS OVER HARPURSVILLE, 67-17 (2025-01-21)

HARPURSVILLE — Candor used a big second quarter to build a 21-point halftime lead on its way to a 67-17 win over Harpursville here Tuesday night in non-league girls basketball action.

Candor led 10-4 after the first quarter, but took firm control in the second.

With the Hornets focusing their defensive effort on Candor's leading scorer Emmi Makie in the first half, Claire Rollins and Shawna scored five points apiece in the second quarter, and Nicole Poli and Makie added four points apiece as the Coyotes built a 27-6 halftime lead.

Candor’s defense turned numerous turnovers into fast breaks in the third quarter as it poured in 25 points.

Megan Williamson led the charge with nine points, supported by seven from Makie, and five from Rollins.

The Coyotes entered the final quarter up 52-12, and would close the game with a 15-5 run.

Makie led Candor with 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Williamson had 14 points and four steals, Conklin scored a career-high 10 points and hauled down 16 rebounds.

Rollins had 10 points and seven boards in the win, while Polo netted six points and grabbed six boards, Hazel Ray scored five five points and hauled down 10 rebounds, and Malley Heild knocked down a 3-pointers and grabbed six boards.

Canton, now 9-3, is off until Jan. 30 when it squares off with Newfield.
