IAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: NEWARK VALLEY ROLLS PAST DRYDEN, 66-20 (2025-01-17)

DRYDEN — Newark Valley built a 12-point halftime cushion, then blew the game wide open in the third quarter on its way to a 66-20 win over Dryden here Friday night in IAC Large School crossover girls basketball action.

“We had a slow start in the first half," said Newark Valley coach Greg Schweiger. "The girls played really hard. They just struggled to make their shots.

"I think they came out of the locker room at half time motivated to do better," he added "I was pleased with their second-half performance."

Adriana Finta canned a 3-pointer, and scored five points, and Adrianna Rich added a 3-pointer to help Newark Valley to a 12-6 lead.

Finta scored five more points in the second quarter as the Cardinals outscored Dryden, 14-8, to take a 26-14 lead into the halftime locker room.

Kam Short poured in 14 points in the third quarter, and Finta added five points to fuel a 27-3 blitz that put the Cardinals up 53-17 heading into the final eight minutes.

The Cardinals closed the game with a 13-3 run.

Kam Short led Newark Valley with 18 points, 12 rebounds, and four blocked shots, while Finta had 17 points, five assists, and one blocked shot, and Livia Short had 10 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and three steals.

Rich added eight points, five rebounds, and three assists in the win, while Anika Smith chipped in with seven points and four steals, Aubrey Kwiatkowski had three assists and three steals, and Haven Aylesworth registered six steals.

Newark Valley, now 10-3, returns to action Friday at Thomas A. Edison.
