CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. — Three Owego wrestlers have advanced to the semifinals of the 50th annual Robert Bradshaw Invitational here.
Sophomore Dylan Brace, and seniors Collin Monell and Bobby Struble recorded their 20th victories of the season as each posted three bonus-point wins during Friday’s action.
Brace, the top seed at 138, opened with a 19-3 technical fall over Mason Indick of Cicero-North Syracuse, then pinned Victor’s Logan D`Agostino in 1:25. In the quarterfinals, he racked up a 10-0 major decision over Hilton’s Alex Puryear.
Now 20-4 on the season, Brace, ranked third in Section IV Division II, will face Virgil Joseph (26-4) from Webster Schroeder, ranked fifth overall in Section V, in the semis.
Struble, seeded first at 170, pinned his first two foes. He dispatched Tre Newton-Acevedo of Irondequoit in 3:26, then decked Kolton Butler of Canandaigua in 1:09. In the quarters he registered a 12-1 major decision over Ethan Clark from Webster Schroeder.
At 20-3 and ranked third in Section IV Division II, Struble meets Hilton’s James Hargather, 23-3 and ranked No. 3 overall in Section V, in the semis.
Monell, competing at 131, came in as the seventh seed. He started out with a 10-2 major decision over Max Heckman of Alexander, then added a 17-1 tech fall against Junior Estep from Lansing. He received a medical forfeit over second-seeded Teague Wolcott of Fairport in the quarters.
With a team-high 21 wins, Monell (21-6) will face another Section IV grappler, third-seeded Hunter Boynton of Moravia. Boynton (18-2) is ranked No. 3 in Division II while Monell is ranked fifth in Division II at 138.
With some team members out due to illness, the River Hawks brought just one other competitor, senior Jonathon Gilliland, who went 0-2 at 145.
Owego sits in 11th place in the 28-team tournament with 35 points. Fairport (87.5), Schroeder (86) and Cicero-North Syracuse (83.5), all Division I teams, hold down the top three spots.
