IAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: S-VE RALLIES FROM EARLY DEFICIT TO TOP NEWFIELD, 40-29 (2025-01-14)

SPENCER — S-VE fended off a fast start, and rallied for a 40-29 win over Newfield here Tuesday night in IAC South Small Scholl Division girls basketball action.
Faith Brenchley and Kaylee Kastenhuber scored four points apiece in the first quarter, but Newfield led 17-13 after the opening stanza.
Lauren Gillett scored seven points in the second quarter, and Brenchley added five, including a 3-pointer, as S-VE used a 14-7 run to take a 27-24 lead into the halftime locker room.
Offense came at a premium in the second half.
The Panthers outscored the Trojans, 6-2, in the third quarter to take a 33-26 lead into the final eight minutes.
S-VE closed the game with a 7-3 spurt.
Brenchley had 11 points, six rebounds, and three assists, and Gillette had 11 points and four rebounds to lead S-VE, while Kastenhuber added six points and three rebounds.
Kaidince Root chipped in with four points, three rebounds, and four steals in the win, and Kate Klym had six steals and three steals.
S-VE, now 2-7, returns to action at Owego Thursday.
