Tioga County Sports Report
SPENCER — Candor took control in the middle two quarters on its way to a 35-25 win over Spencer-VanEtten here Tuesday night in IAC South Small School Division girls basketball action.

After a first quarter that saw both teams scored four points, Candor sophomore Emmi Makie pumped in 10 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, in the second quarter to fuel a 10-4 spurt that gave the Coyotes a 14-8 lead at the half.

Candor took complete control of the game with a 13-2 blitz in the third quarter. The run saw Megan Williamson knocked down a pair of 3-pointers, sandwiched in between putbacks on the offensive glass by Hazel Ray and Shawna Conklin.

Makie's third 3-pointer of the night with 1 minute remaining in the quarter capped the run to take a 27-10 lead heading into the final eight minutes. S-VE managed just a pair of free throws by Faith Brenchley.

Brenchley scored seven points in the fourth quarter, and Lauren Gillette added six points, but Candor made enough free throws — 8 of 16 — to seal the win.

Makie led Candor with 18 points, eight rebounds, and four steals, while Megan Williamson had six points and four boards, and Claire Rollins added four points and four rebounds.

Ray had five points and 10 boards in the win, while Conklin hauled down 13 rebounds and blocked two shots, and Ava Fernando and Malley Heidl each add three boards.

Kaidince Root led S-VE with 10 points and four steals, while Brenchley had nine points, seven rebounds, and three assists, Gillette had four boards and six steals, and Kaylee Kastenhuber grabbed three boards.

Candor (6-1, 4-0 IAC), returns to action Wednesday when it hosts Campbell-Savona out of Section V in a non-league match-up.

The Panthers (1-6, 0-4 IAC) host Groton Friday.
