CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. — Katelynn VanEtten pinned all three opponents to capture her first tournament championship and lead a trio of Spencer-Van Etten/Candor competitors at the 2025 Dame of Thrones Girls Wrestling Tournament here Sunday.
The Eagles’ sophomore, competing in the 235-pound weight class, took just 53 seconds to dispose of Julia Pereira from Burnt Hills/Scotia/Ballston Spa. She then decked Groton’s Zavanna Evans in 49 seconds, avenging a loss when the two met at the Linda C. Knuutila Memorial tourney two weeks ago. In the championship match, she pinned Danielle Trinkle from Salem/Cambridge in 2:59.
SVEC’s Dallas Bohling and Tayah Beach competed in pool action.
Bohling went 0-3 in the 107 Black division with one of her losses coming against eventual champion Charlie Wylie from Port Jervis, who took sixth at the NYSPHSAA Division II boys state tournament in 2023. She also lost to Windsor’s Krysten Yadlosky, who was a STAC and Section IV placer at 114 last season.
