Tioga County Sports ReportTIOGA COUNTY — The 2025 portion of the winter sports season kicks into full gear this week with wrestling taking center stage, including the Tioga-Newark Valley dual on Wednesday, and the Southern Tier Memorial this weekend in Elmira.
There are 29 events on the docket this week, including 10 on Friday, and seven on Tuesday.
The following are all of the home varsity events this week, and a few of the notable road events:
MONDAY (2)
• Waverly hosts STAC rival Owego to start the New Year at the Valley Bowling Center.
• Candor bowling hosts Groton in its first match of 2025.
TUESDAY (7)
• Candor hosts arch-rival S-VE in boys basketball action, while the S-VE girls host Candor in varsity-only action.
• Newark Valley hosts IAC Large School girls hoop rival Notre Dame, while the NV boys travel to ND.
• Newark Valley hosts county rival Candor on the lanes.
WEDNESDAY (4)
• Newark Valley hosts arch-rival Tioga in a key IAC Large School wrestling match.
• SVEC hosts Dryden on the mats.
• Candor hosts Campbell-Savona in a non-league girls basketball contest.
THURSDAY (3)
• Newark Valley hosts Tioga in IAC bowling action at Cardinal Lanes.
FRIDAY (10)
• SVEC and Owego will be in action at Day 1 of the Southern Tier Memorial Wrestling Tournament at the LeCom Center in Elmira.
• Owego hosts STAC rival Chenango Valley in the first girls basketball game of the New Year.
• Candor hosts Southern Cayuga in IAC girls hoop crossover action.
• Newark Valley hosts Whitney Point in an IAC girls hoop crossover contest.
• The S-VE boys host Groton in an IAC Small School crossover contest.
SATURDAY (3)
• It's Day 2 of the Southern Tier Memorial Wrestling Tournament for the boys, and Day 1 for the girls.
• Owego also hosts the River Hawk Round Robin Wrestling Tournament.
