TOWANDA — SVEC closed out a tough day here Saturday with a 39-24 win over Muncy to finish seventh at the annual Flynn Propane Duals.
Pool Play
Commodore Perry 56, SVEC 18
Juniors Rodney Vaow (133 pounds) and sophomore Kaden Sims (189) registered first-period falls for the Eagles on the mat, and freshman John-Michael Bohling picked up a forfeit at 107 pounds.
Towanda 70, SVEC 0
The Eagles were shutout by the eventual runner-up Black Knights.
Port Allegany 76, SVEC 0
SVEC was shutout by eventual third-place finished Port Allegany to finish pool play at 0-3.
Quarterfinals
Troy 42, SVEC 30
Vaow (133 pounds) and freshman Dante Davis (114) scored first-period falls, and Sims (189) and junior Jak Smith (215) picked up forfeits.
Freshman Brennan Zimmer won by injury default in in the 127-pound match. Zimmer was leading 3-0 in the second period at the time of the stoppage.
Consolation semifinals
Sullivan County 51, SVEC 20
Sims registered a second-period fall at 189 pounds for the Eagles, while Smith scored a 15-0 technical fall win in 69 seconds at 215, and Bohling picked up a forfeit at 107.
Vaow also won a 6-1 decision at 133 pounds.
Seventh-place match
SVEC 39, Muncy 24
The Eagles earned four forfeits — freshman Bentley Swimlear (160), Sims (189), Smith (285) and Davis (114) — early in the match.
With the scored tied at 24-24, Vaow won by tech fall 20-2 at 5:11 in the 133-pound match to give Panthers a 29-24 lead.
Senior Noah Banks locked up the win for the Eagles with a 19-9 major decision at 139 pounds to make it 33-24.
Eighth-grader Gabriel Benjamin scores fall at 1:21 in 145 pound match to close out win.
SVEC, now 7-8, returns to action Wednesday when its hosts Dryden.
