THE SPORTS REPORTS: WELLSBORO'S KOSEK NAMED ALL-REGION 'RUNNER OF THE YEAR;' OWEGO'S CHRYSLER NAMED TO FIRST TEAM (2024-12-22)
The Sports Reports
It was a thrilling season for area girls’ runners this fall, with plenty of excitement on both sides of the border.
Wellsboro’s Lauren Kosek picked
things up a notch in her sophomore season, going undefeated in NTL dual
meets, taking second at the District IV, Class AA Championships, and
earning a top-six finish at the PIAA, Class AA Championships, making her
The Sports Reports' 2024 All-Region Girls’ "Runner of the Year."
Corning’s Olivia Martinec took
the running world by storm in her first season. She was third at the
STAC and sectional meets, while also taking 40th at the state
championships, earning her the "Newcomer of the Year" honors.
The "Breakout Runner of the Year" was Elmira’s Madalyn Wise,
who took a big step forward this year. She was ninth at the STAC
Championships, and a state qualifier as she took sixth at the Section
IV, Class A race.
The NTL saw Towanda rise to the top as it went
undefeated in dual meet action. They also took third in a very tough
District IV, Class AA field - the only two teams ahead of them were
second and third in the state. That makes coach Mike Maurer and his crew the "Coach of the Year."
