SECTION IV GIRLS SOCCER: CHENANGO VALLEY TOPS OWEGO, 4-2, IN CLASS A SEMIFINALS (2024-10-22)

BINGHAMTON — Second-seed Chenango Valley scored a pair of goals midway through the first half to take the lead for good in a 4-2 win over third-seed Owego here Tuesday in the semifinals of the Section IV, Class A girls soccer playoffs.

"It was a tough way to end the season, obviously every team wants to make sectional finals, but the girls played great," said Owego coach Laurel Evans. "They all went out there, gave it their all and left everything out on that field.

"They have worked so hard this season to get to this point and I am so proud of all of them.

"Leah Clark, Bella Silvestri and Ashlyn Dalton played great and were playmakers throughout the whole game," added Evans. "And, we had some JV girls step up and be big for us tonight. I couldn’t have asked for anything more."

Emily Nickson, off a feed from Maddie Hayes, scored less than two minutes into the game to give CV a quick 1-0 lead.

Liz Reigle, off an assist from Ashlyn Dalton, however, scored with 27:15 remaining in the half to tie the game at 1-1.

The high-scoring Hayes netted an unassisted goal with 22:46 left in the half to give the Warriors a 2-1 lead, and Tiff Schaefer added an unassisted goal about 5 1/2 minutes later to make it 3-1.

Dalton, off a feed from Keira Henry, scored with 8:36 left I the first half, but the River Hawks would not find the net again.

Hayes, on an assist from Nickson, added an insurance goal midway through second half to provide the final margin.

CV had a 16-7 advantage in shots on goal, and a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.

Olivia Dodge recorded 11 saves in net for for the River Hawks.

Owego wraps up the season at 7-7.

Chenango Valley advances to the Class A finals to face top-seeded Maine-Endwell, which blanked fourth-seeded Norwich, 6-0, Tuesday.
