TIOGA COUNTY — SVEC and Newark Valley will play Week Zero football games on the road tonight, while the Owego girls soccer, field hockey, and tennis teams all have home matches.
FOOTBALL
SVEC at Lansing, 7 p.m.: The Eagles are coming off a 5-5 season that began with a 4-1 start. Their only win in the last five g235ames was an 18-12 victory over Lansing in Week 10.
Lansing posted a 6-4 record playing in the Independent ranks of Section IV. With their return to Class C, the Bobcats are once again eligible for the postseason.
Newark Valley at Mount Markham, 7 p.m. @ Morrisville-Eaton H.S.: The Cardinals are coming off a 4-5 season that ended with a loss to eventual state champion Tioga in the Section IV, Class D semifinals.
Mount Markham was 7-4 in 2023, ending their season with a 32-14 loss to Dolgeville in the Section III, Class D championship game.
BOYS SOCCER
SVEC (1-0) at Tioga (0-2), 6 p.m.: The Eagles are coming off a season-opening, 9-1, win over Whitney Point Tuesday, while the Tigers have suffered losses to Marathon and Southern Cayuga.
GIRLS SOCCER
Owego at Susquehanna Valley, 5 p.m.: The River Hawks open their season on the road at Susquehanna Valley.
FIELD HOCKEY
SVEC at Windsor, 3 p.m.: The Eagles are coming off a season-opening, 4-0 loss to Maine-Endwell Monday, while the Knights open their season today.
Greene at Owego, 6:45 p.m.: The River Hawks are coming off an 11-1 season-opening win over Tioga Wednesday, while the Trojans are opening their season today.
