Tioga County Sports ReportSUSQUEHANNA VALLEY — The Owego River Hawks started their sectional title defense with a 3-0 victory over Susquehanna Valley in volleyball action on Thursday night.
Owego, who won the Section IV, Class A crown a year ago, was facing a solid Sabers team that was 11-5 a year ago.
Owego won a close first game 25-22, before closing things out 25-12, 25-21.
Maggie Hamed had 12 kills in the game, and added six digs and two aces.
Lexi Herceg had 25 assists for the River Hawks, and she added six aces.
Kayla Newman had seven kills and two blocks, with five digs, and Logan Georgia had six kills iand three blocks n the match.
Sofia Silvanic had nine digs and she had two aces. Shannon Maslin also had two aces for Owego in the match.
