Tioga County Sports ReportOWEGO — Vasil Brich netted a hat trick to lead Owego to a season-opening, 5-0, win over Susquehanna Valley here Thursday night in STAC boys soccer action.
“It was a great home opener to what we hope will be a promising season,” said Owego coach Alessio De Michele. “It’s always beneficial when you get an early goal to help build confidence and settle any nerves.
“The boys really came out with purpose and played a superb tempo,” he noted.
“We had a challenging scrimmage with Vestal, which we lost 2-1, but I think we were growing into that game and continued that progress tonight.
“We created a lot of chances and I hope it was an entertaining game to watch for our awesome crowd,” added De Michele.
Zyir Van Scoy and Connor Chobot each scored one goal for the River Hawks, while Matthew Samuelson doled out two assists, and Bryce Oliver, Connor Chobot, and Danny Tavelli each had one assist.
Owego returns to action Saturday at Notre Dame. Game time is noon.
