Tioga County Sports ReportCONKLIN — Mason Grippen recorded a pair of birdies to lead Owego to a 233-261 victory over Susquehanna Valley in the STAC boys golf season opener for both teams Tuesday.
Grippen’s birdies came on No. 1 and No. 7 as he captured medalist honors with a 41 at the Conklin PLayers Club.
Jacob Bensley carded a “solid” 42, according to River Hawks coach Chris Evans.
The Sabers’ top golfer was Adam Spisak with a 47.
Owego’s Carter Rieg was the only other competitor to break 50, posting a 47.
Hunter Woods and Ryan Denton rounded out the River Hawks’ scoring, each shooting 51. Duke Snyder had a non-scoring 55 for Owego.
Other scorers for Sus Valley were Mitch Latini with a 50, Jacob Bailey at 52, Cam Vanderlinde with a 54 and Brayden Landry with a 58. Xander Remza had a non-scoring 69.
The River Hawks’ JV players were paced by Wyatt Prentiss with a 50. Hudson Brigham and Cam Thole contributed 54s, Jordan Snyder had a 56 and Beckett Tirinato added a 62.
Owego competes in the Nick DiNunzio Memorial Tournament at En-Joie Golf Club Thursday.
