Tioga County Sports ReportCICERO, N.Y. — Owego’s Stella Palladino claimed 16th place in the Division II 200-meter preliminaries at the NYSPHSAA Track & Field Championships Saturday.
Palladino, a sophomore, recorded a time of 26.83 seconds and finished sixth in her heat.
Twenty competitors ran in the D-2 event. Two others dropped out due to severe weather which postponed the start of the event more than three hours.
The 200 trials were scheduled to begin at 3:55 p.m. Palladino didn’t run until after 7 p.m.
A torrential downpour, accompanied by high wind gusts and two lightning delays dragged Day 1 of the state well into the night.
