TIOGA COUNTY — It’s going to be a busy week for Tioga County athletes as nine of the county’s 12 basketball teams enter the postseason, not to mention a schedule which includes the state wrestling championships, a pair of bowling state qualifiers and the Section IV Cheerleading Championships.
TUESDAY
Girls Basketball: Candor gets the ball rolling with a two-hour trip to Delhi for a Class C first round game.
WEDNESDAY
Boys Basketball: Owego hosts Norwich in a Class A quarterfinal while Newark Valley makes the trek to Trumansburg for a Class C quarter.
FRIDAY
Girls Basketball: Newark valley hosts the winner of Edison and Sidney while the winner of the Candor/Delhi game heads to Moravia.
Girls Bowling: Valley Bowling Center in Waverly hosts the state qualifier.
Wrestling: All five Tioga County teams will be sending grapplers to Albany to compete for Division II state championships.
SATURDAY
Boys Basketball: It could be a busy time on the hardwoods. Candor hosts the Newfield/Richford Springs winner while the Owego/Norwich winner visits Johnson City, and the Newark Valley/Trumansburg winner faces the Dryden/Whitney Point victor at the home of the higher seed.
Boys Bowling: Valley Bowling Center in Waverly hosts the state qualifier.
Cheerleading: The Section IV championships will be held at Union-Endicott.
Wrestling: If all goes well, all five Tioga County teams will have wrestlers competing for spots on the podium at the Division II state championships.
