Coning junior Peyton Nelson rolled the best series in the area to win a STAC title, and Owego sophomore RaeAnn Craft became the first three-time Section IV girls wrestling champ. They are The Sports Reports / Ziff Law Firm Regional “Athletes of the Week,” for the week ending Feb. 10.
CORNING’S NELSON NAMED ZIFF LAW FIRM REGIONAL BOYS “ATHLETE OF THE WEEK”
Nelson won the STAC Championship with the highest series shot by an area bowler this year.
Nelson rolled a 799 series to win the individual STAC title, and help the Hawks to their third title in four years.
Nelson
fired games of 267, 274 and 258 on the day. Nelson’s three games were
the second, third and tied for fourth best games by any bowler in the
tournament.

OWEGO’S CRAFT NAMED ZIFF LAW FIRM REGIONAL GIRLS “ATHLETE OF THE WEEK”
Craft
became the first three-time Section IV girls wrestling champion when
she captured the 120-pound title at the Section IV Girls Wrestling
Championships Saturday.
She racked up two pins and a technical
fall to add the titles she won in 2022 and 2023. Craft started with a
16-0 tech over Kassandra Lindsay of Dryden, then decked Windsor’s
Kimberly Olaeta in 1:15, before dispatching Tioga’s Kali Bailey in 2:28
in the championship bout.
