
OWEGO — The Owego JV girls took second at the 3rd annual Charlie Sibley Memorial Basketball Tournament Saturday, dropping the championship game to Maine-Endwell, 52-26.
The Spartans took advantage of a 19-7 third quarter run to pull away.
The River Hawks held their own in a low-scoring first half, trailing 18-13 at the break. Jenna McEvoy sank five free throws and Nikulich added a pair of field goals. Jaelyn Chrysler and Katelyn Dodge scored one basket apiece.
McEvoy tacked on a 3-pointer and a bucket in the second half while Nikulich, Chrysler, Dodge and Keely Wicklund had two points each. McEvoy led the River Hawks with 10 points on the day.
M-E received 14 points from Bella Hammond, who drained four treys. Bre Butler chipped in with a dozen points, Allison Pales had 11 and Issie Ocker added 10.
Butler was named the tournament MVP, and Hammond and McEvoy were recognized for their performances.
