Tioga County Sports ReportHOUGHTON, N.Y. — Houghton College freshman Katie Berghorn scored the final goal of the game, and her third of the season, as the Highlanders defeated Elmira College, 9-1, Wednesday in an Empire 8 Conference clash.
Former Newark Valley teammate Mackenzie Malone scored the lone goal for the Soaring Eagles.
The forward/midfielder put one in the cage in her debut Sept. 1 for her first collegiate goal. Houghton defeated Lancaster Bible, 6-0, in that contest.
Her second tally of the season came Sept. 20 in an 11-0 victory over Keuka College.
Berghorn has seen action in eight games for the Highlanders, who finished the regular season in third place in E8 competition with a 5-2 record and are 11-5 overall.
Houghton visits Hartwick Thursday for an E8 tournament semifinal.
