CANDOR — The SVEC girls soccer team has been progressing throughout the season and on Saturday the Eagles’ efforts paid off with a 9-0 rout of Whitney Point in IAC action.
Allie Lyon recorded a hat trick to lead the charge while Meradyth Stouffer and Kaitlyn Coppage contributed two goals and one assist apiece.
“This was a great confidence booster for our team,” SVEC coach Megan Friscia said. “The girls needed this. They started connecting passes better and moving the ball.”
Those seven goals came in the first half.
The Eagles scored quickly with Lyon tallying an unassisted goal at 36:22.
Stouffer notched the next two, at 23:42 with an assist from Coppage and unassisted 18:40.
Lyon followed that up with back-to-back unassisted goals at 14:08 and 10:52.
Coppage would close out the first-half barrage with goals at 9:42 and 1:06. Stouffer assisted on the first one.
The second half saw Hannah Magyar come out of goal to tally twice. Her first goal came at 36:51 and the second was at 17:41. Both were unassisted.
“I was able to try some girls in different positions in the second half,” Friscia said. “We were making good crosses and working on getting to the ball and finishing.”
The Eagles held a 13-2 advantage in shots and 4-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Golden Eagles keeper had five saves and SVEC had two.
SVEC (1-6) heads to Lansing (6-0) Monday.
