CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Newark Valley grad Jonny Sherwood recorded his best time of the season at the Southern Conference Men’s Cross Country Championships last November and will look to improve on that effort this year.
Sherwood, who was Western Carolina’s No. 4 or No. 5 finisher throughout the season, was the Catamounts’ No. 2 finisher at the conference meet as a freshman.
His 8K time of 26:14.6 was more than 3 ½ seconds faster than his previous best and was good for 44th place overall (12th among freshman).
Western Carolina opens the season Sept. 1 at the Young Harris Invitational at Young Harris College in Georgia, about two hours north-to-northeast of Atlanta.
Sherwood also competed for WCU's track & field team.
