Sherwood, who was Western Carolina’s No. 4 or No. 5 finisher throughout the season, was the Catamounts’ No. 2 finisher at the conference meet as a freshman.
His 8K time of 26:14.6 was more than 3 ½ seconds faster than his previous best and was good for 44th place overall (12th among freshman).
Western Carolina opens the season Sept. 1 at the Young Harris Invitational at Young Harris College in Georgia, about two hours north-to-northeast of Atlanta.
Sherwood also competed for WCU's track & field team.
