
ITHACA — The Candor Coyotes 12U baseball team opened the summer season with a 7-2 victory over Arsenal 11U Sunday.
The Coyotes scored first on a two-out solo home run by Mason Rose in the top of the first inning.
Arsenal tied the game in its half of the first on a walk, stolen base and a single.
Candor would recapture the lead in the third on an Andy Groat double, a Rose walk and a Kellen Williamson ground ball fielder’s choice. Colin Chase followed up with a single to make it 3-1.
In the fourth, Nathan Morse singled with two away, and Groat and Rose followed with back-to-back RBI doubles, pushing the advantage to 5-1.
Arsenal would get a run back in the bottom of the inning with a walk and a single.
The Coyotes added two insurance runs in the sixth when Groat singled, stole second and third, and scored on a Rose double and Rose scored on a Williamson single.
Candor pounded out 13 hits with Rose going 3-for-3 with a homer, two doubles, three runs and three RBI; and Groat going 3-for-4 with two doubles, three runs and one RBI. Williamson was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI; and Morse was 2-for-4 with a double and a run. Owen Beach was 1-for-2, Chase went 1-for-3 with an RBI and Anderson was 1-for-3.
Rose gave up two runs on two hits and three walks while striking out nine. Williamson pitched the final inning, fanning two and allowing one hit.
