Tioga County Sports ReportWATKINS GLEN — The Newark Valley softball team climbed out of an 8-run hole to record its first victory of the the season Wednesday, defeating Watkins Glen, 14-11, in IAC action.
The Senecas plated eight runs in the bottom of the first inning, but the Cardinals got five runs back in the second.
NV tied the game at eight in the third, but Watkins went back in front, 10-8, in its half of the inning.
The Senecas took an 11-9 lead into the final frame, but NV erupted for five runs, then turned Watkins away in the bottom of the inning.
Newark Valley visits Elmira Notre Dame, ranked fourth in the state, Thursday.
