
CORTLAND — Newark Valley stepped across the border into Section III Wednesday and shut down Cortland, 2-0.
The Cardinals put forth a strong defensive effort, denying the Purple Tigers any shots on goal and allowing them just one penalty corner.
The two teams played a scoreless first half, then scored a goal in each of the final two periods. Kayden Rockwell and Katie Berghorn accounted for the goals, and Michelle Brooks added an assist.
NV took 13 shots and had 17 corners.
Cortland’s Ella Martin made nine saves in goal and Ashley Beams added a defensive save.
Newark Valley hosts Windsor Friday.
