Tioga County Sports ReportNEWFIELD — Newark Valley won its first volleyball match of the season Wednesday, rallying to defeat host Newfield, 3-1, in IAC action.
The Trojans squeaked out a 26-24 victory in the opening set, but the Cardinals took advantage of a pair of 25-11 wins in the next two games. They wrapped up the match with a 25-19 triumph in the fourth set.
NV received contributions from 10 different places.
Jasmine Graham registered nine kills and one dig; Jenna Hanson posted four aces, two kills, seven assists and four digs; Laura Ludwig added four aces, two kills, an assist and two digs; and Leah Austin-Whittaker had seven aces two kills and a dig.
Matthew Kasper chipped in with five aces, an assist and two digs; Rae Mathewson had four aces and two digs; Kalyna Graham pitched in with an ace, five kills and a dig; Michael Medina had two aces and one dig; Rosie Wandell added four aces; and Joslyn Wright tacked on three digs.
NV (1-3) hosts Tioga (4-1) Monday.
