TIOGA CENTER — Jonathan Garrison posted a dominating victory in the varsity boys race, and the SVEC boys and girls teams won an IAC multi-team meet hosted by Tioga here Tuesday.
BOYS
The Eagles rode a 1-2-3 finish to the win, recording 20 points. Tioga was second with 62, Edison had 69 and Newark Valley finished with 83. Waverly did not field a team.
Garrison moved to the front of the field early in the race and pulled away to win by a large margin, posting a time of 18:29.
That was more than a minute ahead of teammates Nathan Gillette and Brian Belanger, who had times of 19:47 and 19:55, respectively.
Thomas Hurd led Tioga, placing fourth in 20:03, while Newark Valley’s top finisher was Anvil Illsley in 20:19. Ethan Smith led Edison, taking seventh in 21:26.
Rounding out SVEC’s team scoring were Matthew Fitch, sixth in 20:50, and Eddie Rixford, eighth with a 21:26.
Also competing for the Eagles were Wyatt Stouffer (10th, 21:50), James Kane (15th, 23:01), Gage Maxwell (16th, 23:22), Anthony Peters (19th, 23:52), Jayden Stone (20th, 24:03), Lucas Romans (23rd, 25:15) and Kenric Beach (30th, 31:21).
GIRLS
SVEC won a close battle with Newark Valley in the team challenge, scoring 33 points to the Cardinals’ 39. Edison was third with 56 while Tioga and Waverly had incomplete teams.
Isabella Matisco ran a strong race for the Eagles, placing second with a time of 22:45, trailing only Waverly standout Harper Minaker, who crossed the finish line first in 22:03.
Harley Switzer led NV, placing fourth in 23:47, and Josephine Burleigh led Edison, coming in fifth with a 24:05.
Kristin Baker took third for SVEC in 23:12. Kirsten Garrison was 10th in 25:59, Ashley Ellison finished 11th with a 26:19 and Izabel Campbell rounded out the team scoring in 13th at 27:09.
Also running for the Eagles were Olivia Secondo (16th, 27:26), Gwen Shaw (17th, 27:34), Grace Bishop (20th. 29:03), Kalei Wright (27th, 34:05) and Kaylee-May Davidson (28th, 34:56).
SVEC competes in the Owego Invitational Saturday.
