OWEGO — Nick Tavelli’s inside-the-park grand slam to right field highlighted a nine-run uprising in the fourth inning as Owego Cordero routed Susquehanna Valley Connors, 20-3, in “A” Division pool play at the Owego Little League 10U Tournament at Hyde Park Wednesday.

Tavelli’s dinger came in the top of the inning, following a Rocco Canfield leadoff double, and consecutive singles by Truett Hall, Max Schrader and Adam Harvey, giving Owego a 16-1 cushion.

An error off Max Buchsbaum’s bat and a walk to Jagger Chrysler were later followed by RBI singles from Ethan Nikulich and Devon Brace to make it 18-1.

Canfield and Hall added singles, Hall’s scoring a run, then Schrader was hit by a pitch to plate the team’s final run.

Canfield scored Colby Cordero with the game’s initial run in the first inning, both batters collecting base hits.

In the second, Owego built an 8-0 lead on doubles by Buchsbaum and Harrison Miller, an error off the bat of Canfield, and walks to Tavelli, Chrysler, Miller, Nikulich and Brace.

Owego made it 11-1 in the third on RBI singles by Chrysler and Nikulich. Harvey and Tavelli drew walks, and Buchsbaum was hit by a pitch to set up the scoring.

Tavelli finished the game 1-for-1 with two walks, three runs and four RBI. Canfield went 3-for-4 with a run and RBI and Nikulich was 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI. Brace was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.

Cordero had a hit, two runs and two RBI; Hall went 2-for-4 with a run and RBI; Schrader contributed a hit, run and two RBI; Harvey had a hit and two runs; Buchsbaum added a hit an three runs; Chrysler had a hit, two runs and two RBI; and Miller scored a run.

The win went to Cordero, who gave up two earned runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four.

SUNDAY
Owego 21, Vestal Orr 10
Brace clubbed a homer, triple and single, and added three runs and two RBI to highlight a 16-hit onslaught. Schrader drove in four runs with two hits; Cam Farrell went 2-for-3 with a run and three RBI; Cordero had two hits, three runs and two RBI; and Canfield had two hits and three runs.

Hall added two hits, two runs and an RBI; Tavelli accounted for two runs and two RBI; Buchsbaum was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI; Harvey added a hit, two runs and an RBI; Miller had had a hit and two runs; and Nikulich added a run and an RBI.

Tavelli and Harvey combined to scatter nine hits and two walks with Tavelli picking up the win behind six strikeouts over 3 ⅔ innings.

TUESDAY
U-E Vassil 7, Owego 5
Down five, Owego attempted to rally in its final at-bats, but came up short.

Chrysler walked with one away in the bottom of the sixth and scored on an error following Cordero’s two-out single. Canfield followed with a two-run homer.

Union-Endicott led 3-1 after an inning, 5-2 after two and 7-2 after three.

Schrader shut U-E down with 3 ⅓ innings of three-hit ball, walking two and fanning five.

Canfield led the Owego hitters, going 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBI. Cordero and Schrader had one hit and one run apiece, and Buchsbaum tacked one a hit and an RBI. Hall, Harvey and Farrell added one hit each, and Chrysler scored a run.

Bracket play begins Saturday.
