
BINGHAMTON — Lauren Gilbert highlighted a 4-run first inning with a solo home run while Taylor Dalton sparked a 4-run fifth with a bases-loaded triple as Owego defeated Chenango Valley, 9-5, in STAC softball action here Monday.
Taylor Dalton and Jordan Greeno scored on a passed ball and wild pitch, respectively, then Gilbert stepped to the plate and delivered her round-trip shot.
Clinging to a 4-3 lead, Owego would score four more runs in the fifth. Chelsea Rollison walked and Alex Aubel singled, then Layla Etienne doubled home a run. Sophia Palladino loaded the bases on a fielder’s choice which failed to produce an out then, with two away, Dalton cleared the bases with a triple to right.
With the Indians up, 8-5, in the sixth, Gilbert singled, advanced on Saylor Ayres’ sacrifice bunt and scored on an Aubel single.
Gilbert had two hits, two runs and an RBI; and Aubel had two hits, a run and an RBI. Dalton contributed a hit, run and three RBI; Etienne added a hit, run and RBI; Rollison scored twice; and Greeno and Palladino tacked on one run apiece.
Gilbert picked up the win, scattering seven hits and four walks while striking out six.
Owego (7-5) visits U-E Wednesday.
