
DRYDEN — Newark Valley scored the game’s first run, but wasn’t able to stop the Dryden surge in a 16-1 IAC crossover loss here Monday.
Hayley Beebe led off with a walk, stole second and scored on a one-out error off the bat of Whittaker. Whittaker moved to second on a wild pitch, but could advance no further.
Laura Ludwig picked up the Cardinals’ first hit in the second, but was erased on a fielder’s choice.
The Purple Lions took the lead in their half of the second, riding two hits, three walks and two errors to a 6-1 lead.
Mackenzie Malone had a single and stolen base in the third, but was stranded at second.
Rachael Walker drew a base on balls in the fourth, and would be NV’s last base runner.
The Lions picked up another run in the third, then took advantage of eight hits, including a home run by Ava Henry, one walk and one hit batter to chalk up eight more runs in the fourth and build a 15-1 cushion.
Dryden ended the game with a run in the sixth.
Kahlen Cornell gave up two hits and four walks, striking out seven for the Lions (2-3).
NV (2-6) hosts Elmira Notre Dame Wednesday.
