Tioga County Sports ReportOWEGO — The Owego softball team snapped Chenango Valley’s 18-inning unscored-upon streak. Unfortunately, the Indians had dug themselves a huge hole beforehand as they dropped Monday’s STAC clash, 10-2.
Trailing 10-0 and with two away, the Indians removed the goose egg from the scoreboard on a Taylor Dalton single. Carly Kirtland led off the bottom of the fifth with a base hit, then advanced to third on Brooklyn Gaurnier’s ground out and a passed ball. Dalton singled her home, moved to second on a passed ball and scored on Jordan Greeno’s triple to left field.
Holding a 3-0 advantage, the Warriors erupted for seven fourth-inning runs. CV’s first three batters walked off relief pitcher Chelsea Rollinson then, following a strikeout, the Warriors scored twice on a single to center.
Chenango Valley put another runner on on a fielder’s choice which the Indians failed to get an out on, but then CV scored on a wild pitch and a walk.
Following a pitching change and leading, 7-0, CV plated two more runs on a double, then made the score 10-0 on a single to right.
Pitcher Maddie Trisket checked Owego on four hits, striking out 10, as the Warriors improved to 3-0-1 on the season. Dalton went 2-for-4 with a run and RBI, Greeno had a hit and RBI, Kirtland added a hit and a run, and Sophia Palladino tacked on a hit.
Trisket aided her own effort by going 3-for-4 at the plate (both doubles) with three runs and two RBI.
Owego (1-3) visits Chenango Forks Tuesday.
