NEW YORK STATE CROSS COUNTRY: NEWARK VALLEY'S SHERWOOD, OWEGO'S CHRYSLER COMPETING IN FEDERATION CHAMPIONSHIPS (2021-11-18)

WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. — Newark Valley's Jonny Sherwood and Owego's Jaelyn Chrysler have qualified for the 2021 New York Federation Championships to be held Saturday at Bowdoin Park here.

At the 2021 NYSPHSAA Cross Country Championships, Sherwood placed 12th in the Class C boys race with a time of 17:13.8 while Chrysler finished 13th in the Class C girls race, clocking 19:46.4.

An eighth-grader, Chrysler was the highest-placing junior high school-aged athlete in her classification at Saturday's state meet and was fourth overall behind two Class A competitors and another from Class B.

Sherwood, a senior who competed in the state meet for the third time, placed 29th in the state as a sophomore and 32nd as a freshman. There was no meet in 2020 due to COVID-19.

Opening ceremonies begin at 11:45 a.m. Chrysler's race starts at 12:15 p.m. and Sherwood runs at 1:30 p.m.
