
NEWARK VALLEY — Taylor Benjamin registered a hat trick to lead Newark Valley to a 4-2 victory over Deposit / Hancock in Section IV field hockey action here Wednesday.
The Cardinals grabbed a 2-1 lead after one quarter of play and led, 3-2 at halftime. NV would tack on an insurance goal in the third period. Michelle Brooks tallied once for the home team.
Rylee Smith accounted for both Deposit goals.
NV outshot the Eagles, 13-9, but D/H held a 9-7 edge in penalty corners.
Sandy Vaughn made four saves in goal for the Cardinals while Mackenzie Malone made two defensive saves and Hailey Engbith had one.
Shyana Mills had seven saves for D/H.
Newark Valley (8-3) hosts Windsor (8-5) Thursday.
