WATKINS GLEN — Watkins Glen rode a 14-1 run out of the gate to a 55-36 IAC non-division win over Candor here Saturday.
The Seneca Indians increased their advantage to 34-17 at halftime. Candor outscored the home team, 10-9 in the third quarter, but Watkins outscored the Indians by three in the final frame to improve to 4-0.
Owen Scholtisek led WG with 22 points, putting up 17 before intermission. Max Evans contributed a double-double to the victory with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
WG went 22-for-35 at the free throw line with Scholtisek converting 11 of 17 attempts. Candor made 16 of 24 free throws. Cooper Thayer went 5-for-5 and Joel Dougherty went 5-for-6.
The Indians were paced by Thayer and Bryce Mills with 10 points each. Dougherty had five points, Nick Thomas four, Will Zimmer three, and Hunter Haynes and Zack Watson added two apiece.
Candor (2-3) hosts the Glen Monday evening.
