
ODESSA — Spencer-Van Etten pumped out a dozen 3-pointers to cruise past previously unbeaten Odessa-Montour, 77-41, in IAC action here Monday.
James Sutherlin connected for four of his team-high five treys in the Panthers' high-scoring opening quarter as they bolted out to a 31-12 advantage. He finished the period with 18 of his game-high 27 points. Matthew Byrne chipped in with seven points in the period and Marcus Brock added a three and a basket.
O-M picked up a pair of treys from Jared Rumsey and another from Jonathan Gillis.
Sutherlin and Logan Jewell scored four points each in the second quarter, and Brock and Dominic Grier knocked down a three apiece as S-VE extended its lead to 48-22 at the break.
The Indians received single treys from Rumsey, who went into the half with 11 points, and Cameron Elliott, and four points from Phoenix Parmenter.
Sutherlin connected for his fifth and final three of the evening in the third quarter as he and Jewell scored five points each, and S-VE built a 61-32 cushion.
Odessa got treys from Rumsey and Parmenter.
The Panthers' Jayden Grube cranked out a trio of treys in the final frame and Sebastian Enright had one as well.
Sutherlin also accounted for seven rebounds, five assists and five steals as S-VE improved to 2-0. Brock added 10 points, and Grube and Jewell contributed nine points apiece. Byrne chipped in with seven points, seven boards, three steals and two assists, and Matt Merrick added five points and two steals. Grier and Enright pitched in with three points each, and Garrett Cooke and Connor Forrest had two points apiece.
Rumsey led O-M (2-1) with 14 points, Elliott had 11, Parmenter scored 10 and Gillis added six.
S-VE (2-0) hosts O-M Thursday.
