TIOGA'S HARRINGTON CHOSEN TIOGA COUNTY BOYS COACH OF THE YEAR (2020-06-21)
Tioga County Sports Report
TIOGA COUNTY — Tioga's Kris Harrington has made an impressive impact on the Tioga Wrestling program since the day he took over as head coach in 2016. The Tigers' efforts this past season earned their mentor the 2019-20 Tioga County Boys Coach of the Year honor.
Tioga was one of just two Tioga County programs to garner a state title as the Tigers repeated as the NYSPHSAA Division II tournament champions.
In fact, the team would also win its fourth straight consecutive Section IV Division II team title, third straight Section IV Division II dual meet crown, third consecutive IAC Division I dual meet title and second IAC tournament championship in three years (the Tigers did not compete in 2019).
Tioga won seven of 10 tournaments, and was second and third in two others. The Tigers also went 9-2 in dual meets, the losses coming in the semifinals at the state dual meet championships and to Section IV Division I power Chenango Forks (with several top grapplers sitting out the match).
The Tigers won their third straight IAC Division I dual meet championship, going 5-0, and extending their league winning streak to 18 in the process.
Tioga wrestlers compiled nearly 450 victories and captured five individual titles the IAC tournament, Section IV Division II qualifier and the Section IV Division II championships.
Six Tigers would advance to the state tournament with five reaching the podium. Gianni Silvestri would bring home a title while Brady Worthing finished as a runner-up. Caden Bellis placed fourth, Emmett Wood took seventh and Mason Welch was eighth. Donavan Smith competed as well, picking up a win to aid the Tioga scoring.
