COLLEGE SWIMMING: OWEGO GRAD PHELPS NAMED SUNYAC SWIMMER OF THE YEAR (2020-05-17)

GENESEO, N.Y. — Owego grad and SUNY Geneseo senior Mitchell Phelps has been named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Swimmer of the Year.

Teammate Corey Wirth was named SUNYAC Diver of the Year and Kaleb Hotaling earned SUNYAC Rookie of the Year as the trio led a group of 13 Knights who received all-conference honors. Phelps, Wirth and Hotaling picked up first-team All-SUNYAC honors as well.

Head coach Paul Dotterweich and his staff were named SUNYAC Coaching Staff of the Year while Shawn Austin was named SUNYAC Diving Coach of the Year.  

Phelps earned first-place finishes in six different events, earning a win in the 100-yard butterfly and 200 backstroke, and also placing first as part of Geneseo's 200 freestyle, 400 free, 800 free and 400 medley relays.  

The Knights won their seventh-consecutive SUNYAC championship this past season, winning 16 out of 20 events. Geneseo's 13 student-athletes recognized as all-conference marked the most by any team in the league.
