GIRLS BASKETBALL: OWEGO'S DONOVAN HEADLINES ALL-TIOGA COUNTY TEAM (2020-03-19)

Tioga County Sports Report
TIOGA COUNTY — Owego's Kaci Donovan left her mark on the local hardwoods this season and her dominance in the majority of the Indians' games has earned her a repeat honor as the "Player of the Year" on the 2019-20 All-Tioga County team.

The senior departs as the school's all-time leading scorer, boys or girls, with 1,974 points. Twice this season she broke her own mark for points in a single game and she racked up 519 points, averaging 27.3 points per contest.

While scoring was the Penn State-bound senior's forte, she also averaged 6.9 rebounds, 3.6 steals and 3.4 assists per game. She also spearheaded a 10-game win streak which ended in the sectional semifinals.

Teammate Evee Coleman repeats as the "Defensive Player of the Year." The junior forward averaged 9.2 defensive rebounds, 2.9 blocks and 2.1 steals per game.

Behind Donovan, who overcame an early-season shoulder injury, and Coleman, who also averaged 20.2 points, 3.8 offensive rebounds and 1.9 assists per game after returning from a knee injury, Owego went 13-7 with a schedule which included seven games against state-ranked opponents.

Waverly freshman Kennedy Westbrook made an immediate impact on a team which went 15-5. The "Newcomer of the Year" averaged 10 points, five assists, four steals, and three rebounds per game.

Newark Valley's Greg Schweiger is the "Coach of the Year." He led the Cardinals to their first IAC championship since 1991. Despite making the jump up from Class C to Class B, NV posted a 22-1 record, falling in the Section IV title game to defending champion Norwich. The Cardinals were ranked as high as No. 4 in the state at one point in the season.
