STAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: DONOVAN BREAKS RECORDS AS OWEGO DEFEATS ITHACA (22 PHOTOS) (2020-02-10)

OWEGO — When Kaci Donovan gets hot opponents had better look out. The senior guard broke here own single-game scoring record, pumping out 55 points in an 84-69 victory over Ithaca here Monday evening.

The manner in how she broke it was just as impressive as the number of points she put on the scoreboard. After scoring the Indians' first nine points, and 11 of their first 13, Donovan reeled off 13 consecutive points in just over 1 1/2 minutes in the second quarter to turn a 21-16 deficit into a 29-21 advantage. She nailed a 3-pointer, followed by a layup and fast-break basket, then drained two more treys.

She would score 20 points in the second period and had 31 at halftime as Owego grabbed a 40-33 lead at the break. Those 20 and 31 points were also school records. By the end of the game, she also broke the school record for threes, canning seven.

Donovan went 10-for-12 from the free throw line, made seven of her nine 3-point attempts and shot 19-for-26 overall.

She broke her own record of 44 set in a season-opening win over Chenango Forks in December. She also holds the school career and single-season scoring records.

Not to be lost in Donovan's performance was the double-double effort of the Indians' Evee Coleman. The junior forward scored 13 points and pulled down 12 rebounds.

Lauren Gilbert added seven points to the win, Owego's eighth in a row. Maddie Bennett chipped in with three while Maggie Huizinga, Shannon Heffernan and Katie Shoen added two points apiece.

Owego (11-6) closes out the regular season at Seton Catholic Feb. 18.
