IAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: NEWARK VALLEY DEFEATS WATKINS GLEN, 41-33 (2020-02-08)

WATKINS GLEN — Newark Valley went on a 15-2 run in the second half to secure a 41-33 IAC South Large School victory over Watkins Glen here Saturday.

The Cardinals led, 13-5, after one period of play and 20-14 at the half. The Senecas pulled within three points about 1 1/2 minutes into the third quarter, but NV pulled away to build a 37-21 advantage.

The Cardinals would increase their lead to 41-26 late in the contest.

Bri Beebe led NV with 16 points, draining a trio of 3-pointers in the process, and Gracie Gardner contributed 13 points, five rebounds ands two blocked shots.

Makenna Nechwedowich pulled down 12 boards to go with four steals, one block and one point. Makana Gardner had two points, five boards and two blocks; Allie Wandell and Taylor Benjamin added three points apiece; Hannah Ferguson had two points; Kendra Morris had one point and Sarah Mertson had one block.

Kelsey Kernan and Drie Solomon led the Senecas (8-8) with nine points each.

Newark Valley, now 17-0, travels to Edison Tuesday.
