AUBURN, N.Y. — The Newark Valley boys maintained their hold on the IAC Division 1 lead Thursday, splitting with Union Springs / Port Byron here, 2-2.
US/PB would win the girls match over an understaffed NV squad which had just three bowlers available.
BOYS
The Cardinals won the first game, 921-839, and were able to make that difference stand up for a 9627-9613 victory in the total pinfall tally.
The Wolves would salvage a tie by winning the second and third games, 873-854 and 901-852.
Preston Schrader led the NV charge with a 193 540 while John Fiacco rolled a 233-537 and Sam Umiker contributed a 223-510. Alex Umiker had a 183, David Mincer shot a 179 and Jason Brown had a 175.
John Mincer scored a 217 in exhibition bowling.
US/PB was paced by Jacob Wawrzaszek 's 214-576 and Thomas Radley's 202.
NV is atop the division at 23-5 and US/PB is third at 14-10.
GIRLS
The Wolves won, 824-404, 738-430, and 826-477, to win total pinfall, 2388-1311.
Alexis Colbert led US/PB with a 201-569.
Kate Maine had a 174-450 for NV, Lily Austin shot 165-450 and Emily Van Patten added a 138-411.
Newark Valley visits Lansing Tuesday.
