IAC BOYS SOCCER: SVEC FALLS TO TWO-TIME DEFENDING STATE CHAMP IN HOME OPENER (23 PHOTOS) (2019-09-05)

CANDOR — Lansing rolled into town Thursday ready to start its quest for a third consecutive Class C state championship.

Sam Panzer made sure the Bobcats got off on the right foot, so to speak, scoring all the goals in a season-opening 4-0 victory over SVEC. Ethan Burt and Ben Infante contributed one assist each. Tomas Vence earned the shutout in goal.

Despite graduating nine players in each of the past two seasons, and advancing to the state final four in seven of the past eight tournaments, Lansing just continues to reload. This year's roster boasts 13 seniors and nine juniors.

"These guys are a class act and they have a bunch of seniors that worked hard and are coming back from two state championships, but I think we battled really hard," SVEC co-head coach Jason Banks said. "They just capitalized on a couple of our mistakes. Other than that, I think we were in the game."

The Eagles played them tough most of the game, especially during the first half.

"Shot for shot, pass for pass. It was little mistakes. On a team like this, they just capitalized on them," Banks said. "We just couldn't quite hit feet, but we were moving the ball well on them and we were staying with them. Again, they just capitalized on what we couldn't do."

SVEC (1-1) hits the road Tuesday evening to play Union Springs / Port Byron.
