TIOGA COUNTY SPORTS REPORT: NEWARK VALLEY'S CREELEY, SVEC'S BEACH NAMED GUTHRIE COMMUNITY CREDIT UNION 'ATHLETES OF THE WEEK' (2026-03-07)

TIOGA COUNTY — Newark Valley senior Cadin Creeley and SVEC senior Tayah Beach each reached the podium at the New York State Wrestling Championships. They are the TCSR / Guthrie Community Credit Union "Athletes of the Week," for the week ending Feb. 28.

NEWARK VALLEY'S CREELEY NAMED GUTHRIE COMMUNITY CREDIT UNION BOYS "ATHLETE OF THE WEEK"
Creeley, the sixth seed, was 3-1 to finish second in the 165-pound bracket at the N.Y. State Division 2 Championships.

After a 15-0 technical fall in the opening round, Creeley decked third-seed Peter Thompson of Danville in 2:47 in the quarterfinals.

In the semifinals, Creeley topped second-seeded Brody Heckman of Alexander.

In the finals, Creeley dropped a 7-4 decision to top-seeded Ryker Cox of Coxsackie-Athens.

SVEC'S BEACH NAMED GUTHRIE COMMUNITY CREDIT UNION BOYS "ATHLETE OF THE WEEK"

Beach posted a 4-2 record to place fifth at the New York State Girls Wrestling Championships, becoming the first S-VE wrestler to medal twice at States.

Beach opened with a 61-second pin, then lost a heart-breaking 14-13 decision to Camden's Rylie Meagher. She bounced back with consecutive first-period pins, but lost via fall in the consolation semifinals.

In the fifth-place match, Beach earned a bit of redemption with a pin of eager in 2:57.
