IAC JV GIRLS BASKETBALL: S-VE FALLS TO UNION SPRINGS IN SMALL SCHOOL CHAMPIONSHIP (2026-03-07)

SPENCER — The Spencer-Van Etten JV girls basketball team ended its season with a 42-23 loss to Union Springs in the IAC Small School championship game here Feb. 18.

S-VE trailed, 7-4, after one period of play, but the Wolves took control with an 18-7 second-quarter surge, then held off the Panthers in the second half.

Maddy Gentile led all scorers with 19 points while Cloey Adams and Leah Neish added two points spiece.

Gentile also contributed six rebounds, three steals, a block and an assist; Mackenzie Rose added eight boards and two steals; Neish had two boards and one block; Thea Kastenhuber added a steal; and Adams and Lilly Horyczun tacked on one rebound each.

S-VE played without point guard Rylee Silvernail, the team’s No. 2 scorer.

Nala Wright paced Union Springs with 14 points, including a 6-for-6 effort at the free throw line. Olivia Guy, Haley Kehoskie and Kora Alcock chipped in with eight, seven and six points, respectively.
